I remember being at this gorgeous beach in Mirissa, Sri Lanka. Sunshine, palm trees, rolling waves and a cold drink. But something was brewing in the air. I had had a conversation with a friend about worrying news and how she felt touched by the hurt of the world. Some people’s hearts beat for something greater than themselves. These people hurt when flames devour forests, people hurt other people, and media show pain but no relief. I felt for her. Being so protected by the beauty of paradise, pain felt distant. I just didn’t check the news.
After completing this storm, I felt proud of my friend who chose to feel for the world and to be involved. That night, the skies lit up with lightning and rain poured down.
