During travels through the Spanish Picos, I discovered the beauty of granulating watercolours. Granulating means that the paint falls apart in the drying process, leaving a ‘grain’ on the paper. Traces of paint contributing its own texture, its own process, after I’m done making my traces as a painter.
The watercolours I’ve used here contain natural minerals and it only feels apt to portray the detailed, textured landscape using not only my mark making but also the properties of the material.
