‘Think big’, I haveĀ been told many times over, but I love diving into the small details. This small ink drawing is part of the Inked Reveries series that are like snapshots of visual thoughts but pleasing in their own way.
Dragonfly is part of my memento mori phase, in which I dove into the various images artists have used throughout the ages to symbolize our mortality. Due to their ephemeral life and transformation from aquatic larvae to winged adults, they are easily related to death. Even more so, in some cultures, dragonflies are considered messengers between the living and the dead, or even reincarnated souls of the departed. As a draughtswoman, I find their texture fascinating and in this image particularly I wanted to work with the rhythm of their wings.
My Inked Reveries come together in their underlying theme of time and change. What will pass, what will remain?
