According to AI: “Discover the timeless elegance of Villa Belza, a coastal retreat nestled atop a rocky cliff. This intricate ink drawing captures the villa’s architectural details and its stunning oceanfront location. Hand-drawn with a dip pen and dark blue black ink on 100% cotton paper, this piece is a tribute to the beauty and serenity of the seaside.”
Biarritz is one of those places that feel like a home away from home, even though there is no good reason for it. I remember the first time my love took me there. He was stoked about the surf and remembered the area from his childhood holidays. Neither of us had ever set foot in Biarritz. We arrived at the boulevard along the cliffs with the winding paths, magical trees, sun loving people sitting in the grass, on fences, everyone’s face turned towards that kind, intense, orange, red, pink, yellow sunset…
We stayed there for some time and while my love went to surf, I wandered around the place, trying to catch a glimpse of this fairy taleness with my drawing materials. One of my sketchbooks contains that first sketch of Villa Belza but of course I stained the drawing with some mud and coffee because life just kept pouring over it.
This ink drawing is an interpretation of my interpretation, dreaming of returning there, a drawing without stains, honouring that beautiful place that I was to visit again, only one year after the making of this drawing.
